Yes, every 26 seconds another young person drops out of high school – one of the highest rates of any industrialized country in the world. Most everyone agrees this startling statistic is a prescription for economic disaster – resulting in an epidemic of under-educated citizens who cannot possibly compete for the workforce of tomorrow.

They work with over 8,500 families each year, with programs that span all ages, from “diapers to diplomas.” Their reach extends throughout central Orange County, serving the cities of Garden Grove, Santa Ana, Anaheim, Westminster, Fountain Valley, Stanton, Cypress and Orange.

Diapers to Diplomas: That’s Pat Halberstadt’s Motto!

When lifelong Garden Grove resident Pat Halberstadt left home to attend college she knew what she wanted to accomplish: a degree and teaching credential so she could come back home and teach. She almost made it. Pat earned her degree and credential, returned home, but decided to “try something a little different,” accepting a one-year stint as director of the local Girls Club. That was many years ago, and she has yet to enter a classroom to teach.
