Boys & Girls Clubs all across the country are responding to the needs of young people and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic. Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove serves more than 644 Club members at our five traditional branches and more than 4,000 youth and teens at our school-based locations. Although our Club sites may be closed, our exceptional team of Youth Development Professionals has been working tirelessly to create virtual programs, enrichment activities, and wellness calls to all our members.
On March 23rd, we kicked off Club Connect. Initially, we provided the families with 20 activities that were self-guided or families could participate in together. On April, 6th, families received daily activity guides with a kid friendly website to offer a virtual experience through digital resources. This week, Club Connect launched live Power Hour sessions to provide academic support along with educational activities for 1st – 3rd graders, and for 4th – 6th graders to ensure our members are getting the support they need to understand and finish their homework packets from school. We are also providing weekly challenges like Academic Jeopardy and Fitness Challenge days that keep their mind and bodies active and engaged. Through Club Connect, we are offering our members an opportunity to reconnect with other members through a highly supervised interactive online experience.
Today, the organization is committed more than ever, to ensure Club staff, members, families, and communities have the resources and support they need to navigate these uncertain times – while also partnering with State and Local officials to do more. When we open our doors, Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove will follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and California Department of Health’s guidelines to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all participants. Our Safety Committee consisting of both BGCGG Staff and members from our Board of Directors have established policies and procedures that will ensure the safety of all members and reassure parents that their child(ren) will be in a safe and positive environment. Our immediate focus will be to provide services to our families who are considered essential workers.
